1999 MARCH MYSTERY IMAGE

It has been a busy month full of guesses. Many of you figured out what it was and the rest of you had some very creative answers. What was the mystery image? It was a pollen grain. The picture was taken with a scanning laser confocal microscope. Pollen is not really this color. The microscope adds pseudo colors (false colors).

Congratulations to: Daniel, Melanie, Birgit, Jake, Taylor, Yan, Mistique, Pina, Ottesen, Jakob, Ryan, Mike, Hallie, and Chelsea who guessed correctly. Also thanks to all that sent in their guess. We had some very creative people working on this mystery.

  • 6% guessed that it was dust.
  • 4% guessed that it was a cell.

  • Porcupine Ball.
  • A sticker that is in dry places like a in a field.
  • Atom from Mars.
  • A type of light bulb that is in the earths atmosphere. Kind of like something that floats in the atmosphere.
