In the Mutation section, click on the thumbnail images to see examples of normal and mutated cells. In the Disease (Cancer) section, move the slider to observe how the cell and nucleus size change during the 4 grades of cancer.

Maya researcher character

Hi, I'm Maya. I'm one of the researchers in Dr. Biology's lab. Now that you've learned about some of the cells in the human body, I'm going to teach you about special situations where a cell and its nucleus might be different sizes than normal.

We're also going to begin thinking about the NC ratio. The NC ratio is a number that represents how big the nucleus is compared to the size of the cell. The NC ratio is similar in cells of the same type.

As you read through the following section, pay attention to the size of the nucleus. What happens to the size of the nucleus in each of these situations?
