Helping Ask A Biologist

The Ask A Biologist team has been busy working to build content to help educators around the world teach during the pandemic. Visits to the site have increased dramatically in 2021. Our games and virtual tours have seen unprecedented increase in use. Your donations will help us bring new and improved content to the website at a faster rate.

For our past and present supporters, we thank you for your donations.

See learning in action

It is not easy to get a look at learners engaging in content at scale. We track a lot of metrics for our Ask A Biologist K-to-grey learning program, but it does not capture the dynamic nature of what goes on during a typical school day. Using a combination of Google Analytics and data from our raw server logs we created this short video. It shows the top ten engagements, by number, coming from each location at a single time point. We have also included the hourly totals for some of our popular content areas. Take a 60+ second break out of your day to see the results.

How your support makes a difference

Ask A Biologist continues to be free to the public with the help of our volunteers and supporters. Please consider supporting the program by making a gift to the ASU Foundation. Here are some of the ways we use funds donated to the project.

Ask A Biologist Illustrations
At Ask A Biologist, we believe that pictures help tell the story when words are not enough. Take a look at Viral Attack for one example of how illustrations help explain the complex topic of the human immune system to a wide audience.

Ask A Biologist Games
Games and simulations can be powerful learning tools. As Ask A Biologist continues to grow, we have increased the number of activities that teach through play and interactive activities. Check out our Bone Lab to see how games and simulations enhance the learning experience.

Ask A Biologist Teachers
Ask A Biologist continues to build content that can be used inside as well as outside of the classroom. The best way to create activities that teachers can use is to enlist creative teachers to work with us as we build activities. Funds donated to Ask A Biologist are used for teachers’ stipends to develop classroom activities based on our content. Some of our newer classroom activities are Catch and Sketch Plankton and A Nervous Experiment

Ask A Biologist Website
Central to the success of Ask A Biologist are the programmers and developers who work behind the scene on the website. Without funding to develop and maintain the website we would not have a place to distribute all the great content.

Your gift may be considered a charitable contribution. All funds will be deposited with the ASU Foundation, a separate non-profit organization that benefits ASU. Please consult with your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of charitable contributions.

Thank you for helping us reach children by sharing the intriguing aspects of biology and shaping their future education in science!
